ABOUT THE HOSTS

Tahilia Rebello
Hiking Enthusiast, PhD

Tahilia is a nature-lover, avid hiker, and outdoor enthusiast. Over the years she has hiked through the Grand Canyon, Adirondack and Green Mountains and Harriman State Park, to name a few. Internationally, she has hiked in the Andes up to Macchu Picchu in Peru, the Swiss Alps, and recently summited the tallest free-standing mountain in the world: Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania! She was a member of the Columbia hiking club for six years and is currently a member of the Catskills 3500 club (honor given to all those who have climbed all 35 of the peaks over 3500 feet in the Catskill Mountain range). For her day job, she works in the mental health field for the World Health Organization and Columbia University’s Global Mental Health Program.

Alison Whitehead
MPH, 500 RYT, Group Fitness Instructor, National Program Manager for the Integrative Health Coordinating Center at the VA.

Alison grew up playing competitive team sports, running, and biking. She has always enjoyed helping others to feel their best and enjoy life. Alison began incorporating yoga into her routine to help with her own training and stress reduction as well as for her bigger goal of teaching others the amazing benefits of a regular practice. Alison is currently the National Program Manager for the Integrative Health Coordinating Center at the VA, helping to bring complementary and integrative health approaches to Veterans. Alison teaches Yoga for Athletes, High Intensity Interval Training, Yoga for PTSD, and general hatha-vinyasa style yoga.

Kristen Hwang
500 RYT & 85 Hr Certified Prenatal Yoga Teacher

 Kristen is a passionate, intuitive and motivated yoga teacher, specializing in an athletic-style Vinyasa and meditation.  Kristen's love for yoga grew during her early years working in TV production to find solace from the long hours.  From there, the hobby grew to a passion, and the passion grew to a lifestyle change. During this transformational journey, Kristen came to discover true happiness from within through self care, finding inner joy through the experience of leading a healthy and meaningful life.  It is through this realization that motivated her to launch HappygirlYoga.com, with the intention to connect, empower, and motivate all women to shift their focus within themselves to live the best life possible.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

About the Hikes: (Led by Tahilia Rebello)

Our Saturday hike takes us through the famous Appalachian Trail that runs all the way from Maine to Delaware! But, not to worry, we are going to explore only 4 miles of this beautiful nature trail. This hike will take us through some gorgeous wooded terrain filled with Maple, Oak and Birch trees, and up to a beautiful vista at the summit known as Pulpit Point. Fingers crossed that the Fall colors will still be there to greet us! This is a moderate hike, with a decent uphill climb, but we will take ample breaks to breathe in nature, and to learn a little about the plants, trees and terrain. After we reach the summit, which provides a great view of the surrounding nature and towns, we may take some time at the top to meditate as a group. There’s even an amateur observatory at the top that we can check out before heading back down! This is a beautiful short hike to invigorate ourselves and to take in some beautiful scenery.

On Sunday, we will complete a 3 mile, meditative and replenishing nature walk in the Blue Marsh Lake Trail System, located only about 25 minutes away from Lakeside Manor. This relaxing, easy loop hike is mostly flat and follows the edge of a serene lake. It is brimming with incredible fauna and there are some beautiful bird species in this nature reserve, so hopefully we will see some Woodpeckers, Cardinals or Blue Jays! At the half-way point, we will take a short path out to the lakeside to take a moment to appreciate nature and meditate, before looping back towards our start point. The hike back is stunning, with great views of the nearby hills and is filled with natural beauty! This is a very relaxing hike which will leave us with plenty of energy for the day ahead!

About the Fitness/Yoga Program: (Led by Alison Whitehead & Kristen Hwang)

High Intensity Interval Training is an intense, time-efficient and effective workout that can change your body and get you into the best shape of your life. This class is creatively designed, integrating body weight exercises into a high intensity interval program that will build strength, burn fat, increase metabolism, and improve overall fitness. The dynamics of small group training allows for individualized instruction and provides greater motivation in a friendly competitive environment. All fitness levels are welcome. 

Power Vinyasa Yoga is an energetic yet relaxing class with a strong emphasis on the breath and strengthening the body.  The class will torch your calories, tone and clear your mind to leave you with a sense of accomplishment.   You will fluidly move from one pose to the next while connecting to the breath to the movements.  The class will end with a brief guided meditation to honor your higher intention and purpose for your practice. All levels are welcome.

TRANSPORTATION:
Please note transportation must be arranged separately. For driving directions, we highly recommend using Google Maps. There is plenty of free parking available at the estate.

If you choose to take public transportation, we recommend taking the Greyhound bus to Reading Station in Pennsylvania. Please let us know in advance if you will be arriving by bus, and at what time the bus is expected at Reading station. We can arrange for pick-up at the bus station or, alternatively, you may take a Uber or taxi to the house.

Please make sure to pack all your necessary personal items as there are no pharmacies or grocery stores less than 30 minutes away, and the hosts are not responsible for making any trips off the retreat property.
