Yes, I'm a Health Coach and Yes, I Look at Food Porn

Welcome to my *not so dirty* dirty little secret.

I'm a health coach and yes, I look at food porn. We all have our different go-to's on those insomnia-filled nights... mine just happens to involve being tucked up under the covers, lights out, scrolling through page after page of delicious looking, though objectively terrible for you, food. I'm talking that good ol' Instagram, melty raclette cheese, BBQ, and heavenly butter drenched pasta kind of food porn. And I'm not ashamed.

I would consider myself a relatively healthy and conscious individual. I eat predominately vegetarian, drink my ginger turmeric water first thing in the morning to wash down my probiotics and spirulina, and I work in all the colors of the rainbow when composing a salad. But I'm also human.

Let's face it... delicious looking food LOOKS DELICIOUS. There is something so magical about a gooey fork full of mac and cheese, or a sprinkle and frosting drenched donut. And I know where your mind is going, "Well, gee Lindsey, maybe this is your body telling you something! Maybe it's time to indulge a little, let loose, and eat the mother lovin' donut!" And I'm here to tell you that I do. But in moderation.  Hell, I have a pint of Ben and Jerry's Milk and Cookies in the fridge right now that I bought last night because my sweet tooth was calling... not so HealthyBelly, but satisfying all the same.

What I'm trying to say is, I don't deprive myself. I eat healthy because I like to. I legitimately like the way eating clean feels, and I enjoy the TASTE of simple, nutritious, healthy dishes. But I also like the LOOK of indulgent, over the top, artery clogging masterpieces, as well.

Comfort food is called just that for a reason... it's comforting. I get all warm and relaxed just thinking about a fresh out of the oven bubbling lasagna. It brings me back to my childhood Sunday night dinners in my mother’s kitchen waiting impatiently with my brothers as mom dishes up the plates... that long ooey-gooey cheese pull accompanying each serving from baking pan to plate. You know what I'm talking about!

And that's where the "Food Porn" appeal comes from, I guess.

These days I definitely don't crave eating like that (all the time), and I KNOW my stomach wouldn't necessarily handle it all too well if I did, but there's something so viscerally satisfying about the feelings and memories those decadent, not so healthy, dishes evoke.

So yes, I'm a health coach, and I've been known to go down the Instagram "Food Porn" rabbit hole. And I am not ashamed.I am nourished by more than Kombucha and cauliflower rice alone! But now I'm hungry and I want to call my mom...

What's your *not so dirty* dirty little secret?

In love and gratitude,
